The Vaughn College Warriors men's tennis team hosted the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) Steels on Saturday, April 13. The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) match was held at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Center located in Queens, NY. This was the first HVIAC match of the season for the men's tennis team.
Raphael Cordina (Nice, France) helped the Warriors earn a point against the 2018 HVIAC tournament runner-ups and regular season champions. He defeated his number three singles opponent (10-6). Cordina has won three matches for the Warriors thus far. His triumph over the Steels was his first singles victory of the season.
The Warriors, however, were overwhelmed by the more experienced and talented Steels team. Despite competing hard throughout the entire match, the men's tennis team would go on to lose their first conference contest to the Steels.
Webb Institute will be the next opponent for the Warriors. The Webbies shocked the CIA Steels last season to capture their first HVIAC tournament title.
